China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd. becomes CORSIA verification body

2019-12-05

On November 28, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) issued an announcement that six Chinese institutions, including China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd. (CCSC), have officially become ICAO-recognized international aviation carbon offset and emission reduction plan (CORSIA) verification agencies. This signifies that CCSC can provide greenhouse gas emissions verification services to all airlines participating in the CORSIA mechanism worldwide. At the same time, CCSC is also a carbon emission verification agency for civil aviation flight activities registered by the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

This qualification is another important qualification obtained by China Classification Society in the field of climate change in the international transportation industry after the "European Union Shipping Greenhouse Gas Emission Monitoring and Reporting Verification (MRV)" qualification. We will adhere to the policy of "establishing a society with technology, integrity-based, distinctive, and world-class" to serve transportation enterprises and promote the construction of a modern transportation power.

Over the years, CCSC has always been committed to addressing climate change, and has successively obtained important qualifications in the field of climate change at home and abroad, such as the designated operating entity (DOE) of the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project and the certification agency for Chinas voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction project. The implementation of various validation and verification thousands of times has promoted the development of my countrys low-carbon cause and effectively promoted the construction of my countrys ecological civilization.

CORSIA is a global greenhouse gas emission reduction measure initiated by ICAO. It aims to offset carbon dioxide emissions from international aviation activities through market-oriented means, so that such emissions will be maintained at a stable level from 2020. At the end of 2018, the Civil Aviation Administration of China issued the "Interim Measures for the Management of Carbon Dioxide Emission Monitoring, Reporting and Verification of Civil Aviation Flight Activities", requiring domestic civil aviation companies to monitor and report carbon dioxide emissions and accept verification.
